Brenden Taylor, MA RCC
Registered Clinical Counsellor
‧ Individual Counselling & Coaching ‧

I use a gentle approach and curiosity in my practice to help people uncover the reasons for their unhappiness and to assist with opening up new possibilities for emotional freedom. Valuing each person’s unique journey through life, I customize my approach to the individual’s personal history and the outcomes they wish to achieve. I move at a pace that is comfortable to my client, seeking to listen respectfully, while helping facilitate their growth through dialogue, trauma processing, skills development, and psychoeducation.

With a background in Child & Youth Care, I also support clients to understand and examine how their early years have influenced their development.  Together we may explore the belief scripts and nervous system responses adopted during childhood that underly their sense of self and intimate relationships as adults. Such a process can lead to greater insight and more conscious decision making and behaviours.

In addition to more cognitively based talk therapy, and depending on the needs and consent of the client, I am able to integrate other approaches into our work together including EMDR, creative visualization, mindfulness activities, or neurofeedback.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an information processing therapy that helps clients cope with trauma, addictions, and phobias. During this treatment, the client focuses on a specific thought, image, emotion, or sensation while simultaneously watching the therapist’s finger or baton move in front of his or her eyes. The client is told to recognize what comes up for him/her when thinking of an image; then the client is told to let it go while doing bilateral stimulation. It’s like being on a train; an emotion or a thought may come up and the client lets it pass as though they were looking out the window of the moving train.

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is a type of psychotherapy that involves a combination of cognitive therapy (reviewing and replacing maladaptive thought patterns), meditation, and the cultivation of a present-oriented, non-judgmental attitude called “mindfulness”.

Neurofeedback is a wonderful adjunct to therapy or a stand-alone intervention that helps to restore the natural resiliency and flexibility of the nervous system. Using EEG technology, NeurOptimal Neurofeedback interrupts patterns in the brain and harnesses the innate capacity of the brain to self-correct for more optimal functioning. It has been especially helpful for my clients struggling with PTSD, ADHD, insomnia, anxiety, depression and other challenges.  For more information about my neurofeedback services, please visit my website neurovictoria.com.
